So my dad raced a Boss 302 Mustang in the 70’s, and wanted me to learn how to drive a real car in real Florida. Parents surprised me with a 1987 Camaro Z28...not just any high performance Camaro, mine was blessed with the last Carbureted V8 offered by Chevrolet. The computer controlled quadrajet 4 Barrel was probably less than 100 whp, but the torque was amazing. Dad knew I needed a RWD car to learn on, and he chose an underpowered carburetor to teach me the ways of the automobile....
What do you want your kids to drive?

First car was a ‘06 HHR. First manual car with a ‘02 Miata. Good times.

I would to literally hand down my shit box metro, but I doubt it’ll last another 9 years.
I'm a firm believer in kids should own a beater first.

Hopefully my wife's 08 Camry. Also known as old trusty compared to the random cars I keep buying.

I was handed our TL when I first learned how to drive. In the real world, my child is getting an old ES or GS I’ll pass down when I’m like 30.
In the dream world I have where I have a mansion and a full Porsche garage (Panamera for me, Cayenne for the wife.) I have two kids in that dream, the son gets a Boxster Spyder cause he autocrosses on the weekends and my daughter dark gray Cayman GTS with Black wheels because every time my friends and I talk about our futures, she ends up being a tomboy.
I’m 20 right now lol

I’d get my future kids an ‘08-’13 CTS. It's probably the best all around car I can think of. Safe, RWD, 315hp V6, fantastic styling, great interior, reliable, and comes in Coupe, Sedan, and Wagon flavors.

Land rover, because I would rather have kids stuck at home learning to fix the unfixable instead of going out and making an unfixable mistake (18 years to life lads)

I think I had it perfect. Started with a Suburban, so I can parallel park in my sleep, then went to an e39 528 to learn to drive so when I crashed I wasn’t going fast enough to die and had enough steel around me to keep safe.

2012 Jetta GLI, that my parents allowed me to mod a bit....
Right now it’s got sticky rubber, a tune, lowering springs and an exhaust.
Overall, it’s quick, fun, cool, but there are 2 trade offs.
1) doesn’t matter how you cut it, it’s a jetta.
2) there is no way to turn off TCS/ESP
3) It’s FWD.
Still, it has been track-tested as is right now, and I can report it's a heluva lot faster than most other cars at my school, save for the few actually quick pony cars, and that E92 M3.....

I had a Miata. But I'm not having kids, so no Miatas for them.
